Joomla 2.5 Release Changed to January 24th

Quick Update:  Joomla has just released Beta 2 of version 2.5, one day after it’s original anticipated GA (general availability) release date.  This will allow some additional time for bug testing and upgrade testing from version 1.7 to 2.5.  This will also give extension developers a bit of extra time for plugin development and update testing.

Just as a reminder, beta releases are not suitable for production sites.  The GA release date is now going to be January 24th, 2012.

Joomla 2.5 to Replace Version 1.8

Joomla has announced Joomla 2.5 Beta 1, with a stable GA (general availability) release coming January 10, 2012 (give or take a few days, depending on availability of the fine people who donate their time and energy).  The decision has come based on a poll Joomla released called Vote for the Version. Joomla! 1.7 Released Today? Already?!

What, another new version of Joomla came out today?  But didn’t Joomla 1.6 take over 3 years to develop and just come out a matter of months ago?  Yes, indeed it did.  In fact, this is the first release on Joomla’s new 6-month release schedule, since version 1.6 was released in January 2011.  Joomla 1.8 is scheduled to be released in January 2012.
